Bessie Campbell was fortunate to travel to England as a young girl, then return to Australia. Along the way, she heard the sound of the banjo many times. Determined to become a banjoist she faced one hurdle after another until she truly was the Queen of the Banjo.

Hal, the pod cast is magnificent! This is a great addition to the site. You have a great sounding voice too. I assume there are no recordings of Bessie Campbell. The recordings you did include are very nice. The whole effort provides historical depth to playing classic banjo. Thanks very much.

I enjoyed your podcast very much. It is good to hear about female players. It was interesting to hear the Torrances play. I met Myrtle a few times at UK BMG rallys, I am assuming the waltz is by Morley, and shall try it out. She played mandolin after her husband died - I never heard them play banjo. The banjo is an addictive instrument as shown by Bessie"s persistence. Many tanks.
